Beachhead - noun - The area that is first taken by a military force, secured, and used as a base of attack.

(I had to look it up because I didn’t realize it was an actual word before it was used in the story.)

The Doctor and his companions arrive at a seaside village in the middle of a flood, and just as her mother and herself look out onto the carnage, they get hit by the flood. With the Doctor knocked out, Helen and Philipa watch over him as Philipa’s daughter goes with Liv to check on her village. But a Voord ship has been unearthed, and thanks to U.N.I.T. and the Third Doctor, things are about to get very bad, very fast. This story is forgettable, fast-paced, and enjoyable. The writing is a little on the bland side and many plotlines and characters are completely forgotten for a long time. This story may be bland and have issues, but it is truly enjoyable. The Voord pose an interesting threat, and the issues between the Doctor and Philipa add a lot of tension and emotion. The ending itself is, while completely silly and unrealistic, is still enjoyable and emotional. There is also a good deal of humor placed throughout the story, although I'd say some of it is rather misplaced.

As per usual, the acting of this story is remarkable, with the only blemish being, ironically, the Voord. The voice is boring, simple, and unenergetic. Luckily, the Voord are still enjoyable enemies despite this.

The effects are subpar, and sometimes confusing, but the good news is there are only a few. Some effects are good, but the less-than-perfect ones overshadow those. Luckily, I consider music an effect, and the soundscape is utterly beautiful. It might undercut moments, but it only ever does that because it’s playing to the writing, which is why it undercuts those moments. The music goes from synthy and technical to melodic and silly, and it always fits wonderfully.

All in all, a good enough story that is rather forgettable, has a good soundscape but less than perfect effects, and is, admittedly, enjoyable.
