Marcus Cicero, down on his luck at the moment despite his skill, is hired to defend a young man accused of killing his father. No other lawyer will take the case, but why? The son wasn’t in the town, he had no motive, and suspicious actions surround the entire case… With a man’s life on the line, Cicero and his brother must find the truth within a web of lies and conspiracies all pointing back to one of the most powerful men in Rome.

So… I loved Tartarus… Jesus Christ this is somehow better! The writing is perfect, there isn’t a bad line in the entire story, the pacing is perfect, and the comedy is utterly amazing! I was smiling the entire way through, and as I listened, the story and the conspiracy spread itself before me as I discovered what was happening along with the characters! There is a twist in this that, honestly, doesn’t feel too great because it’s a little obvious, but it’s still great and, I’m sure, it will be enjoyable for any other listener. The banter between the brothers Cicero is hilarious, and Quintus is just a continuous source of comedy, I mean every scene is glorious. The finale of this episode is, in all honesty, one of the best things I’ve ever heard. It’s also nice to see Marcus getting help from his brother because while Marcus knows how to present information, he still needs help making it so that the populace will actually listen and will be able to side with him. Honestly, the final minutes are pure genius!

I don’t know what else to say about the acting other than “it’s perfect.” The one dip in quality is right at the end, but it’s only with the side characters, so it’s honestly barely noticeable.

The effects are solid gold, so let’s skip over those. They literally are perfect, the background effects and the action effects are BOTH literally perfect. The one problem is the music because while the intro is perfect, the music throughout the rest is rather bland. It’s great music, but it doesn’t do anything in the scenes it’s used, and it really isn’t used too often. Still, I’m not really gonna complain, the story is great and between the acting and effects, there's no empty space to be filled and the music might even take away from the other great parts of the story.

This story has amazing replay value! I could listen to it over and over again! That being said, you don’t get much listening to it again. You won’t leave feeling like you noticed more, but you won’t feel unable to enjoy it again.

All in all, how is this so lowly rated! I honestly want to check out the full Cicero boxset now! Everything is either perfect or verges on perfect except for the music! This story is great, if you haven’t listened to it yet but got it from the lockdownload week it was free, check it out!
