An Autist Reviews: Scenes From Her Life (The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Doom Coalition 2.2)

In the past, a young girl is denied her gift, her uniqueness. In the present, the Doctor and his companions find themselves hunting down the destroyers of the Voord Homeworld. Two nut jobs chewing the scenery to Gallifrey and back command a young woman and a man named Swordfish to kill prisoners trapped inside an old, broken TARDIS. As the name might suggest, this story jumps between the present and the past of a certain woman who is integral to the story. This is rather annoying, but it does pay off as things move forward and as it shows the evil core of Timelord Society and how everything came to be the way it is. It is, however, a negative that there is YET ANOTHER GODLIKE TIMELORD IN EXISTENCE NOW. The story itself is solid gold, it’s emotional, intense, scary, and awesomely enjoyable. You really are along for the ride and the story guides you exactly where it wants you to be.
The acting is, once again, pure gold, and yet it is still even better than before. The only negative to the acting is that the prisoners are relatively bland and poorly acted and written. The bad guys, all but one, are chewing the scenery in a hilarious and also somewhat horrific way.
As for effects, they are glorious as well… however, they do get worse in the last, like, 10% of the story. The music is utterly glorious and sets the mood perfectly. I feel like a common problem in audio is how to show psychic destruction… but this does an okay job.
All in all, this is a massive step up from the previous story and it keeps you guessing the entire time. It guides you along a path of insanity, confusion, and sorrow as you become putty in the writer’s hand. The only real negatives are the prisoners, some of the moving back and forth in time format, and the effects in the latter piece of the story.
