An Autist Reviews: The Galileo Trap (The Eighth Doctor Adventures: Doom Coalition 1.3)
*This is an older review, it is not as detailed as my more modern reviews*

*FYI in the 70 minute long BTS… less than 20 minutes are dedicated to parts 3 and 4 COMBINED. TWENTY MINUTES. TWO RELEASES. Just so you know why these last two are NOT good.*
The Doctor, Liv, and their new friend Helen arrive in the past during a mysterious new plague and begin looking for Galileo. Meanwhile, a Count goes hunting for an exotic behemoth and Helen meets a strange and dangerous man. The Doctor knows he’s walking into a trap, Galileo is in danger, and Helen and Liv are about to meet a cyborg cop and nearly get eaten alive.
Look I cannot even pretend to care about this. I hate Galileo Trap. I disliked Orphan-55… hated it even… but dear god is this not fun at all. I nearly fell asleep. Keeping myself focused on this story is impossible. Helen keeps wandering off for no apparent reason and doesn’t say things she REALLY should say, and Liv… is there? The Doctor is the most competently written and I do like Helen’s wariness of the Doctor and her zest for history… but that’s overshadowed by her less than understandable actions. Now let’s talk about Galileo… WHAT IS HE DOING?! His character is all over the place, makes no sense, and is selfish right up until the story decides he shouldn’t be anymore. Also, the same situation repeats itself over and over again with the main bad guy of this story and dear god is it annoying. I don’t know why his partner doesn’t just shoot him like her character really should. There are a few ‘twists’ but they are barely foreshadowed and don’t make you care whatsoever. Two of the characters could have been secretly time travelers, but instead, you get them clearly flaunting it. Also, they just drop the ‘plague’ plotline as soon as Liv does her good deed of the story and only comes back up to be a reason the bad guys are bad… no dip Sherlock. I could keep going… but I don’t want to think about this story more than I have to.
The acting in this isn’t horrendous. Good job. It also isn’t good. It ranges from very good to terrible and back again… other stories have done worse, but the acting still isn’t that great here. The bad guys are the best acted, but they still aren’t great and their lines get repetitive pretty quickly. MOVING ON!
The music is boring. It sits in the background and you never notice it unless you are REALLY trying to. The voices are pretty good, but not great. They give off the right tones and don’t distort the voices too badly, so really they’re good; they sound monstrous and dangerous. Good job on being competent in SOMETHING at least! The action effects are pretty good too. They miss out on some things, but they do go above and beyond at times where other releases would just ignore the need for effects… but then it counteracts this by having everyone say what’s happening instantly.
As for replay value… just don’t. The only thing I can say is that it’s less annoying after you listen back… for a time. After that time it becomes EVEN WORSE than the first time. Also, good luck on finding anything new to enjoy your second time through BECAUSE ALL THE TWISTS ARE GIVEN AWAY INSTANTLY.
This is bad. It just is. I disliked, no, HATED Orphan-55… but this is just so much more unpleasant. The writing is horrible, the story is repetitive and gives away EVERY twist, and the enjoyment you get out of it is comparable to that of watching a snail race a slug. The acting is fine, the effects are good aside from the music, and the replay value is that of a dumpster fire. Does this deserve this low of a score? No. Do I care? No. Reviews are always a little subjective… So here's my review. Listen to it once, and never again.
